Im not an island...!!

"No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." John Donne from Meditations.

The first time I heard of this poem was when I saw the film "About a Boy" when Hugh grant's charater Will contradicts this and says

"That was back in those times when men had no TV or CD or VCD or DVD or Home espreeso makers.... Now if you are equipped you can actually be an island paradise....."

My best dialogue though was when marcus says to Will that other people can make you happy and then Will says.."If other people can make you happy then they are also equally capable of making you unhappy.."

Well said Dude! If only I could have been like you.Now its not just that Im not an island but then recent developments in my life would suggest that Im a old dry leaf who would be blown in direction and in any speed by even the slightest of breeze.
Im this sentimental creature who still has the tiny piece of magnet which her 7yr old cousin gave her for safe keeping(im sure that even he would have forgotten about that) some one whose day gets ruined because some one who I knew didnt smile at ME and many other odd things. So when one of my friends who I was very much found of picked up a quarrel with me I was almost heart broken..

John Donne doesnt honestly give the most right approach to life. Now other people might appreciate you because you are sensitive to even the tiniest things that happen to them and you are considering your friends sorrow as your own or happiness as your own.But then this is rubbish because if you are affected by everyone then just as they might make you happy they can also make you unhappy.

Now I have tried and tried but then I have given up.. not in my 9th life can I be an island or someone who is self made and independent. But then I thought I would try to be hypocrite and tell people to be an island and then I put up an orkut profile which says "Dont even give a damn" and a foto of Bart Simpson which screams out a tough cool attitude. In reality it would have been in that period of my life when I got soo affected by everything that I had put up that caption.Well told ya! Im taking hyppocrisy to new levels...Tc! Salaam!

Now for my view....

HE! HE!..... So now that all the news papers and all the magazines have screamed out their views this one comes from me.We live in world which is so dominated by the media(the shining example being this very blog which im writing to you...)but unfortunately instead of using it for the insight of useful information we sometimes use it misappropriately to peek into the lives of the others. So we have mere personal issues taking up the headlines by the mere virtue of it being all too juicy and intriguing......which is one reason why we cant live any one alone.

Homosexuality ,the latest issue being that it still comes under the list of unnatural sexual practices and is punishable under Indian Law when countries outside India have made rules of same sex marriage possible. Now all this comes from a country which cant still cut down on its rates of female feoticide, dowry deaths and communal riots.... The one disadvantage of people today is that we have become so one sided incapable of appreciating other peoples diffrences. So we claim that ou political party ,our religion, our country is far more superior than others... and in this case heterosexuality over homosexuality... It is too difficult for us to acknowledge that it is possible for another person to be on the right path.

Now I like butterscotch flavour ice cream and my friend likes strawberry flavoured ice cream but that does not mean that one of us is right or wrong.Homosexuality is form of livelihood which a person chooses. Now you cant force some one to marry and ruin another persons life nor can you force a homosexual person into a life of saint hood. Its their preference, they were created by the Almighty this way and let them live they way they like it as long as they are on the right side of law.

There might be people who think this might be a very westernised thought. But then it is not .This is something which is very universal. And as for being western.. we accept many things which are totally against our tradition why not accept something which calls for concern and care for people.....

Friendship....(Damn! Not that !!)

Like I said I went on this self- propaganda to promote my blog. And I should say the results were resonabley satisfying.Anyways now that we have our surgery posting and I have actually lost out my attendence today (Coz of coming late!!) I had oodles of time to type out the blog.

So I thought of scribbling something which had some relevance.OKAY! this one is faaaar outdated ... I Know That!.... promise you guys.. there will come a time when I sit writing about Euthanesia or Out sourcing.

All of us get practically many forwards and scraps saying the importance of friendship and so on. But ultimately the fact is that not many have lot of friends who can actually stand up for you in times of need. Now for some one who is in the age group of packing up their bags putting on their ties, tying up their hair with ribbons... thats the school going gang might find it extremely hard to believe. But the ones in collage knows what I am excatly talking about.No....No.. I am not talking of those friends who regularly remembers to call you up on vacs, who plans your surprise B' day party and who Sms those gingerly All so touching SMS.Im talking about that section who would stand by you even they know that their popularity or harless existence might get affected, who can actually talk some sense in you, who can actually point out waht might be actually good for you and what might be actually bad for you and doing an umpteen number of things which are unspoken and unwritten. And we definitely know that not many figure in this list.In fact be thankful if atleast One figures in this list!

Now I know that as my B'day comes by or as The friendship day comes up I would have my messge inbox getting jammed with messges. But then I know that when I reach the crossroads of my life I would have very few by my side. And maybe thats all I need might actually need in my life....

"Many I have by my side, to laugh and to cry,
But then to make me laugh when I cry
To make me cry when you are too far
Thats when I see you as my dear one.

Now dont droop like the autumn leaf,
Coz Il be there too by your side,
When you wish for me in your mind,
Not always, No! No! But when you realy need me."

Light at the end of the tunnel....

So lets say there are times when a single day might teach you more than what 19 years couldnt. As of now I can say things have cleared. My friends get along with me well except for the fact that I cant still help being the perenniel irritating thing i am..(Which is 1 habit that i cant recover from). My Umma is also feeling much better these days.. Atleast thats what she tells me.And i hav gone on a self - propaganda to promote my Blog...(He..he...).

As 4 the much awaited champions league match i didnt watch it...Told ya... !! i was havin a roller coaster of a time these days....Right now there seems to be nothnig at present in the football scene. All the domestic leagues have got over(Atlest the french and the english) as well as the european league.Well the euro cup is not thaa... t faar away.. so that should be fun.Getting to play fooball, riding bikes, roaming around even late at night not having 2 care about how the world looks at you are all things which delude my fantasy... iN short stuff which any guy might take 4 granted intheir lives... Well the blog isnt called tomboyish life 4 no reason.....
And i thought of deleting my last post just realising how silly it looked on reading.nyways Salaam!

Streetcar named desire.....

Yup! I watched the 1951 movie version of Tennessee William's play some time back and turns out to be one of my favourite behind "Lawerence of arabia".This film perhaps features the greatest ensemble acting ever.Naturally, it was the only movie which came close to winning all the 4 acting oscars. But it lost out coz Brando (of all people!)couldnt convert his nomination into the statue.Anyways Vivien Leigh(as the central character Blanch Dubois) and Marlon Brando (as StanlyKowalski) completly overshadows the other two....

What was fascinating for me personally was how my opinion of the characters swong from one end to the other.Stanley(Brando) started out as this Alpha male and a lovable brute but in the end turns out to be someone whom you would never ever want to know even remotely in your real life .Blance Dubois was initially irritating and frivolous but ends up earning the audience sympathy. I guess my version of stella(Hunter) would depend on whether im reading the play or watching the movie(coz they both hav a diffrent ending).I lov the movie's ending though many would contradict. What was even more fascinating was how the movie inspite of its typical american setting is pretty universal in its theme. You would hav come across a kowalski ,a mitch(Malden),a stella or a Dubois. You might even be one of them. For all those who completly love it for everything it was i say check out "On the waterfront"Brando's and Kazen's towerhouse.Im guessing that you would hav check that out...

While Brando to the older generation would mean an incredibley Great looking actor ,(To me the best looking human male ever!!)to the younger generation he would be just an old fat actor. But every one agrees on the fact that he was one of the greatest.!!
Afterall you cannot just watch the man and not be affected by it.!! ciao! tc! Salaam!
